, the world's first LNG-fuelled Aframax tankers, have received certificates from the Green Award international programme. These certificates are a quality mark for vessels that significantly surpass the convention requirements related to navigational safety and environmental protection.
Green Award was the first in the world to introduce an environmental assessment system for ships, based not only on the ship's technical characteristics but also on the professional competence of the crews and fleet managers. Sovcomflot is one of the oldest of the acting participants of the Green Award programme. In 1996 the company received the first such certificate for one of its vessels. Since then, SCF’s ships have repeatedly received Green Award certificates.
The certified companies and ships undergo regular audits that consider a wide range of issues related to navigational safety, service quality and environmental protection. The list of areas includes navigation, operational procedures, emergency response, waste and sewage management, crew training and many others.
The corporate participants of the Green Award programme benefit from a competitive advantage, in that certification provides discounts on European port dues and services. However, first and foremost, Green Award certificates are valued within the maritime community as they are a recognition of the efforts of seafarers and fleet managers.
