Primakov, Yevgeny

Yevgeny Primakov (1929-2015) was a Soviet and Russian statesman and politician, who served as Prime Minister (1998-1999), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1996-1998), Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence (1991-1996), and Chairman of the Soviet of the Union (1989-1990).

He was also a scientist, Orientalist/Arabist, Doctor of Economics (1969), professor (1972), academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1979), member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of Presidium of the President's Council for Science and Education and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly.

Primakov was Laureate of both the USSR State Prize (1980) and the Russian State Prize (2014).

A multifunctional icebreaking standby vessel was named after Yevgeny Primakov. The vessel is employed servicing offshore platforms of the Sakhalin-2 project and was designed for operations in challenging ice and navigational conditions of the Sea of Okhotsk. The vessel is registered under the Russian flag and has Saint Petersburg as the port of registry.
